The overview and scrutiny function is carried out by two Committees.  They are accountable to the Council and support the work of the Cabinet and the Regulatory Committees.  They can offer advice to the Council, the Cabinet and the Regulatory Committees on policy, service delivery and the budget.  They also monitor decisions taken by the Cabinet and can be consulted on forthcoming decisions and policy development.  They can “call-in” decisions taken by the Cabinet to consider the appropriateness of such decisions.  They also work together as one Committee on the budget strategy, “State of the District” matters and strategic cross-cutting work.
